In August 2014, a new laser metal cutting workshop was launched at the production facility of NPP RUSMET, together with a delegation of the European steel concern SSAB.

In a festive atmosphere, Vice President Wear Services EMEA SSAB Chris Van Beurden cut the red ribbon, marking the start of the new procurement workshop. Laser cutting of metal, as the most advanced cutting technology, has increased the production capabilities of NPP RUSMET.

Laser cutting allows for obtaining high-quality metal cutting at thicknesses up to 10 mm and is indispensable for the manufacture of metal products from stainless steel. The launch of a new laser cutting workshop marked the next stage of development for the production of tanks and food processing equipment, since stainless steel is widely used in this area. The IPG laser machine, with a 2 kW ytterbium source, is an indispensable tool for cutting stainless steel sheets.

After high-speed laser cutting of metal, the parts feature high accuracy, no flash, the edges of metal products do not require additional metalworking, the bores have the correct shape and can be cut with a diameter five times less than the sheet thickness, which is impossible when cutting metal with plasma.
